Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie says the SNP have got their priorities all wrong as new drug prescribing statistics are published today.
Commenting, Ross Finnie said:
"The number of drugs prescribed is going up, at the same time as the ingredient cost of medicines is increasing.
"Money received from prescription charges went down 22% this year, yet the SNP still want to abolish prescription charges.
"In these harsh economic times, giving free prescriptions to those who can well afford to pay is simply not the best use of resources.
"Liberal Democrats are prepared to make this difficult choice.
"Money pledged for scrapping prescription charges would be better used protecting frontline services from closure or centralisation.
"The SNP has its priorities all wrong."
