Responding to SNP demands for inclusion in the UK leaders' debates at the next general election Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael commented: "The overwhelming majority of British voters want to see these debates between our potential Prime Ministers go ahead.
That is as true in Scotland as it is in the rest of the UK. Mr. Salmond may be many things but he is not a potential Prime Minister.
The last time he was asked he was not even going to be a candidate for election to the House of Commons. The SNP will pay a heavy price if they try to disrupt these debates for the sake of their own vanity.
Alex Salmond's grandstanding has backfired on the SNP this time. His demands have only highlighted the irrelevance of the SNP in a UK general election"
