Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP has revealed that a Scottish quango is sitting on £122 million.
A report from the Audit General confirms that the Registers of Scotland quango has £122 million accumulated in its reserves.
Commenting, Mr Scott said:
"Small businesses are struggling in these tough economic times. They expect every pound of public money to be working, not sitting in bank accounts. The First Minister should show a bit more gumption and commitment.
"Given the stream of complaints about the £500 million of cuts coming from Westminster, the First Minister should have leapt at the chance of using this £122 million of quango slush fund money. This is good money in the wrong place in these tough times.
"He needs to get round the table with the Treasury to get the money moving. Small businesses can't get the help they need from their bank and this money could be used to help thousands of them."
