MP Michael Moore is encouraging Borders charities to apply for funding through Inspiring Scotland's new 'Go Play' programme.

This new scheme is being supported by an investment of £4 million from the Scottish Government, and will supply financial support to charities and community organisations that provide play services for children aged between 5 and 13 years of age.Michael Moore MP: Scottish Borders

Funding is available for a range of purposes, including staff development and the expansion of existing play services. The application deadline for this year's financial awards is 6 November 2009.

Commenting, Mr Moore said:

'The many people in the Borders who offer their time to support after-school activities and play schemes deserve our gratitude. Play is an important aspect of childhood and I am certain that the 'Go Play' scheme will allow charities and community groups working in this area to expand and develop the services they are able to provide.

'I would encourage any organisations that think they may be eligible for this scheme to consider making a funding application'.
